COMMUNITY SERVICE

Each year, VFW Post 10859 commits to a hands-on community project that reflects our mission of service beyond the uniform.

At VFW Post 10859, service does not end when the uniform comes off. Through our annual Day of Service, we come together as veterans, families, and community members to take on meaningful projects that make a visible impact right here in Bakersfield.

The Day of Service is part of a nationwide effort led by the Veterans of Foreign Wars to strengthen communities through direct action. Across the country, VFW posts step up to meet local needs. Here at Post 10859, we carry that tradition forward with projects that reflect both the character of our members and the priorities of our community.

Each year’s project is different, but the purpose remains the same. We focus on work that improves quality of life, supports fellow veterans, and strengthens the community around us. That may include assisting local nonprofits, improving public spaces, supporting veterans and their families, or partnering with other organizations to meet urgent needs.

This is more than volunteer work. It is a continuation of the commitment we made to serve something greater than ourselves.

The Day of Service also creates an opportunity for the community to connect with the VFW in a meaningful way. Whether you are a veteran, a family member, or a local resident who wants to give back, you are welcome to be part of the effort.

As each year’s project is announced, we encourage members and volunteers to get involved early. The success of the Day of Service depends on participation, teamwork, and a shared sense of purpose.
